Launched my trailer at a normal ramp a couple of times since since Frank fixed it. piece of piss.
Yesterday it was time for the big test at Long Reef. The launch was ok, we caught nothing but bloody Bonito, and then the telling time came when we got back. Lucky my mate came down to observe incase anything went wrong. He has lots of experience of witnessing failiers there. The car towed the boat up the sand easy enough. Backed the trailer up to the boat, proceeded to winch and reverse the car at the same time. She was struggling. All of a sudden, CRACK! The guide roller bracket snapped off. I was shattered, but knew that will get us nowhere. My mate said its ok we can still do it. We cushioned up the sharp steel and proceeded. CRACK!! The other side went. Couldnt take the dead weight. After alot of attempts to get it on we finally did it with some help from a few people. We had trouble getting it straight cause we had no guiders. But in the end it was all good. This morning went to the local trailer builder who specializes in building trailers for that ramp and i got quoted $4500 for a new one, or $3800 for a cheaper version. Guaranteed to do the job. 3 weeks to complete. After weighing up my options i think i have little choice. The way i see it is i dont really drink much, dont do drugs, dont go out partying, dont spend cash on expensive clothes, dont have a demanding missus, and dont gamble often enough to say i lose money. Fishing is my sport, hobby, leisure and relaxation. Sometimes you have to pay for it when something goes wrong to keep doing it. Does that sound like a good enough justification, or am i a bloody idiot for throwing that much cash away?

We kinda knew something would go wrong.
Even Frank said that was the wrong trailer for the boat. We drag it up the sand to line it up straight with the trailer and to get it away from the wash. |

The forces on the trailer for winching a boat up like that are all wrong... you would need a fixed low centre roller... or a tilt trailer!
Im guessing its a beach launch?? Good thing bout the 4x4, i just reverse right into the water... But I got big tyres, lockers and a winch! |

These guys who will build me a new one have built alot of the guys ones who use that place.
Its a vert demanding place for cars, boats and trailers. My one was set too high off the ground. Has to come much lower with a bank of rollers up the middle. |

Those rollers are the biggest heap of shite you can put on a traler.
They may have held alot longer if they were gusseted back onto main rails but you then lose any adjustment. As far as getting the boat lower to the ground goes ?? Spend the $$$'s & get tortion bars like the ones on my big trailer instead of full axles , last time I looked they were around $550 each you only need 2 I have a double boggy. They make towing that much easier as well. -------------------- Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

This is my mates trailer and he pulls a Sea Farer off the sand pretty easy. My trailer will be built pretty similar, with 4 cross members.
