speaking to Blake of Kroboats (where i bought my tinny from) all the interest rate hikes and fuel cost increases is hurtingg the 5-9m boat market. The smaller boat market is taking off!

while hunting around the boat yards for a motor to suit martin today i saw something that made my blood run cold,
there was a boat at the shop fitted with an inboard motor mercruiser to be exact and they had it set up to run on gas, now to me that is asking for big trouble from what i was told the petrol tank had been removed and the gas tank fitted in its place under the floor, i do think it is to dangerous to have a gas tank fitted in the bilge like that, the chance of an explosion are just to high -------------------- bugger it's sold, got meself a house instead

Wasn't being Narky @ all & my say was as good as any I dont have a job either, but when I did I worked by butt off in a way most here would have no idea about I didn't get on the booze , didn't spend my $$'s on drugs never owned a credit card & allways lived within my means. When most of you's were out fishing or taking sickies from work I was going to work even when I was legitly sick 15 years of that without a day off. Everyone gets given oppertunities in life & some of us made the most of them I can garauntee all nobody fed me with a silver spoon. You're talking about trivial sacrifices that you're making today ?? Tell you what, if you can give me back the 15 odd years I didn't have a life then I'll gladly give you all the $$'s that I own [/quote Firstly I am sad not angry, I like you don't hate you, but It saddens me that you are so angry and obviously you are by the attack on my life and it's so called "Trivial" sacrifices that I am going through now. You have NO idea of my life and it's sacrifices now or in years gone by. You have absolutley no right what so ever to comment on my life or anybody elses unless you have been a part of it. If I have misunderstood your reply to Pol I apologise, I know you "Generalised" But I too worked hard all my life and had to bounce back from Drink and Drug issues and start all over again. You worked for a rainy day I admire that. I worked to survive and get out from a place I would not want anyone to go to. I am responsible for my choices good and bad. The comments made were about tough times for some people not about you and or how your life has been. You always attack people Ang. I don't know why. There is no need for it. You always go for the jugular and it would appear you don't give a care of the hurt or distruction you leave in your wake. I never attacked your person I just made a heart felt statement. You have absolutely no right what so ever to comment on my life or anyone elses. What I wrote was about some people doing it tough financially. Ang you and only you only know how hard your life has been and how hard it is now with your illness which I have a great amount of empathy and compassion for you in that department. I also acknowledge the fact that you have a kind heart, also that worked for yourself and very hard I imagine I wasn't there so I don't know and I applaud you for your work ethic. You are a hard worker, you are a knowledgeable fisherman. I just don't understand the attack on me as a person and there is no other way for me to take it. "Trivial Sacrifices" how dare you. But I must say this, for you to make the statement that I have made trivial sacrifices hurts me greatly. I am a physically tough and hard man , but I am really sad and hurting a heap now. Ok you know Lou is crook and has had cancer and that I have dud knees and hips. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors and that includes Jumpus Goodarus I'll ask you once and once only do not ever assume anything about me or my family again Ang. I have said what need to be said. I know deep inside you are a good bloke and I will not talk about this issue again Bobby y This post has been edited by Arnie Dog: Apr 28 2008, 03:33 AM -------------------- ![]() The George Street Shuffle |

Hmm, well personally i havnt been out on the water in over 3 months,
and i dont have any plans on going out on the water anytime soon, as some of you know ive got a 5.7 metre cruisecraft hustler with a 2 stroke 140hp on the back, which just loves to drink the fuel, to me personally fuel is over priced and getting more and more expensive as to the average cost of living and yes the majority of fishos and boaters are middle income earners which have young families to consider, they have the kids to feed and bills to pay before going out and spending $$$ on a days fishing, now some of us may think well its only say for example $60 for a small boat to go out for a day fishing but to a lot of families $60 can mean the difference to there being food on the table at the end of the week and there not being any food on the table , while as to myself i have no little ones to look after and they have less time to them selves due to working longer hours to survive , heek gees i dont even have a wife any more, she packed up and left me with an empty house 3 weeks ago, Many many fishos that i know that have small young families can no longer afford to take there boats out as not only fuel is going up but so is everything else in life and they no longer can afford to enjoy such relaxation , for me my choice of not going out any more is that yes the price of fuel is going up , and yes i have to work longer hours to carry on . but i have decided that i wish to start all over again and rebulid my life and try to save some money so that in 10 years i dont still own a 5.7 metre and being single again , so that in 10 years i own a 40 foot cruiser and have a young family , i dunno maybe im wrong but i think we all are in a different situation in these current times and while some people have chosen ( no fellow members intended ) to live a single life and be $$$ comfy , others have chosen to start a family and suffer the loss of $$$ , but i know at the end of the day as much as i love fishing id say good bye to my boat and my fishing rod to know that my children ( pray to god that i have some 1 day ) have the best up bringing that i can afford to give them , -------------------- ............GLOBAL WARMING............

Hope it works out for you mate..
As for the price of fuel being the topic of the thread... I spend $700 a month on the Stuff.. Just for my 4x4 to get me around.. Dam that sucks!! But Im still driving it cause I got places to be.. I also spend way to much on Alcahol, but thats my choice... I dont save any money, but im happy doing what im doing at the moment.. One day the time will come to settle down! |

Hustler trade in your big boat for a smaller tinny that can still get you to places and does it on a 30-40 hp that uses far less for a days worth of fishing.
At the end of the day I like to take my family out for a day fishing ( my wife will never be a fisho, but I hope my kids will) which is a cheap days out and keeps them out of troubles elsewhere. a 40 hp tinny can still pull a tube/biscuit behind it as well so it makes for some family fun there as well Jack -------------------- ![]() |

I really do think peeps are freting over the cost of fuel for no reason.
Yes it is alot more expensive these days compared to around 25 years back when I got my 1st decent sized boat & here's a few examples on what it used to cost then to now. A day out in my 18 ft tinny with a 80 hp merc on the back trolling around the Banks or the Peak would use around 70 litres which would equate to around $40 - $50 if I recall correctly thing was I'd only be fishing 2 on board maybe 3 & back then my take home wage was only $220 per week. These days I fish different & it's got nothing to do with the price of fuel A much bigger boat longer days because I have the boat to stay out there if weather blows up running 2 much bigger outboards etc etc & if I'm going out wide I like 4 on board. Last trip which was a pretty big day on the water from sun up to after dark we used around 140 litres which is around $200 & to be even fairer back in the old days my single outboard merc would only be sitting on 800 - 1000 revs all day cause we were polling livies around wereas these days I hit the throatles pretty hard getting out to the shelve & back. Dont work these days so dont know what a take home wage is but I'm pretty certain it's a hell of a lot more than the mere $220 I was taking home 25 years back. Another thing fuel efficiency in outboards has come a long way since the days of my old merc I cant understand why peeps are freting over the price of fuel esp those with smaller boats cause a day out in my smaller tinny I'd be lucky to use 10 - 15 litres & thats for a big day out. Now if peeps want to use their boats to ski from etc then of course you'll use more fuel reving your motor out. QUOTE I also spend way to much on Alcahol, but thats my choice... Rumpus you pump more alcohol down your filler tube than you put petrol in your car ![]() ![]() Another thing how many of you here really get out on a weekly basis to use your boats ?? Think most of you's are lucky to get out on a monthly basis, so doubt whether the price of fuel could put that big a dent in your wallets 25 years back we spent just about every weekend down @ Greenwell Pt & I used to leave my boat down there to save towing back & forth in those days our fuel bill would far exceed our accomodation bill. Fat chance of that happening these days with accomodation being the far greater of the expenses no different to buying bait pilly's were $2 a block back then these days they're around $12 a block in sydney & a big rought down sth @around $16 a block -------------------- ![]() Save The Fish, Eat a Pussy |

Yep I recon your pretty right the jumpus...
My Fuel Bill is big because I travel many Km in the 4x4.. I also think your right about costs of living.. People want so much these days and then complain that they have no money!! I know i do!! So many things I could get rid of that I dont need could save me over $200 a week, Like Austar, Braodband, Mobile Phones, Take away dinners, RUM (Nope, not stopping that one) And general things I Dont need, but choose to have! I could also save myself Heaps by sharing accomodation, I pay $1000 a month! (+services/gas/water/power) So by cutting back on a lot of un nessacarys I could live much better, Save money and put it into somthing better!? Who knows... We will all find a way to survive! Hustler... I recon the boys are spot on... If the boat is vosting you to much then get yourself a tinny with a 30 on the back.. I can do a whole day of fishing and only use 10-15 litres.. |

i can see hustlers point here , as i said before when there is a need to cut back the boat will be one of the fist things to go.
so we advise owe good friend to down size, but that dose not answer the question of how things will go in the future will there be a fundermental change in boating, i do believe there will be changers QUOTE Dont work these days so dont know what a take home wage is but I'm pretty certain it's a hell of a lot more than the mere $220 I was taking home 25 years back. in dead it is j.g. but did u have to pay for a mobile phone, internet, rates, and all the other expenses that go with modern livening to day i can see that in the future one of the important considerations boat buyers will be looking at is the overall running costs that will be incurred by its ownership ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------- bugger it's sold, got meself a house instead

Again it all comes back to if you cant afford it then you're living beyond your means. Personally I'd rather toss my mobile phone to the shitehouse if it meant not being able to afford going out in the boat & as far as the internet goes ??
