Just wondering if someone could get a few pics of how to correctly bait your hooks.

Lives, Squid, fillets etc.

Have you tried Superglue ? laugh.gif laugh.gif

With all baits except livies a 1/2 hitch will present it much better

Livies are a personal choice sometimes I'll pin them behind the head, if there's alot of current through the mouth no current then sometimes through the tail

Oh yeah & a drop of Superglue

You give it to the livie and when a big fish gets close he sqirts it on the biger fish and jumps on , sticking to the biger fish. this is good for the livey as he dosen't get eaten and you can reuse him rolleyes.gif

Baiting Hooks - Pilchards Fillets

Even though it may look as if you are going to extremes, baiting a hook with Pilchard Fillet does offer variety and potentially good results in a hookup. Naturally you would need a sharp, flexible fillet knife.

The most convenient hook choice is a bait holder or a snecked pattern. The twin barbs positioned along the shank of the hook will support the pilchard fillet and prevent if from collapsing around the gap of the hook, hence denying you an attractive presentable bait to lure the fish. A long shanked hook, or a suicide pattern 1/0 - 3/0 will suffice.

Step 1 Fillet the Pilchard with a sharp knife.

Step 2 Pass a long shanked hook through the fillet 2 cm down from the tail end of the fillet.

Step 3 Thread the fillet onto the hook shank at least twice.

Step 4 Secure the fillet with a half hitch knot around the tail end of the fillet

I searched for the master after his departure from 'the other side' 'cause I was entertained by his style. When I found him, I joined his group. The master is my mate smile.gif I think we have a similar sense of humour.

Try salting them down and wrapping them up in newspaper it will sort of mummify and dry them out tough.

Hey Oz !

They're picking on me :o Tell them what happened to the last person who did that laugh.gif laugh.gif

Poly I always take out salted pilchards along with frozen ones for a few reasons mainly cause the peckers cant skeletonise a salted pilly they try but only nibble around the soft stomach area.

Dont like the newspaper thingy Fed suggested dries bait out way to much I use S/S containers.

Pilly's must be thawed add salt & brown sugar leave out for around a hour or so salt will dehydrate the pilly's & a brine will develope in the container.

Then wack container into the freezer pilly's wont freeze cause of the salt & when you go to use them they are still faily soft & not stiff as a piece of cardboard.

Hooks I use are a wierd looking thing Mustard 37140

they sit beautifully in the bait & most importantly the point is always exposed very nicely unlike other hook where the point can twist back inside the bait resulting in Missed Hookups

Went out for a fish today & since they weren't biting except for the rubbish thought I'd take a pic

Wheather I use full or 1/2 pillies they both get baited up the same way with the hook point fully exposed same goes if using strip bait & always finish off with a 1/2 hitch.

Whew!!! as luck would have it, that red bead off your earing dropped into the bait holder. It surprises me how many fisho's try and bury their hook, so that the fish can't see it. The idea is to hook the fish, therefore the point and barbs must be exposed. smile.gif I am on the same page as you, right J.G. B)

I actually get the Sh*ts with people kkw.
You take them out show them how to rig & bait a hook then they go back to their stupid ways & wonder why they cant hookup fish.

Showed ewe's how I bait now here's the type of hooks I prefer to use they're an open gap hook which allows more of the hook point 2B exposed esp when 1/2 hitching bait, I use them for just about everything
