I have started to pimp up the first of the yaks, as you know by the other thread I have been trying to get on to Scotty rod holders so possum decided to go with a single for now.
The only type on sale was the Hobie brand,, gues what,, they are made by Scotty, but that's ok

As for a sounder just tie a rock to a piece of string & put a knot evey meter

mate I can see what you are thinking, and if I were to fish in the one place all the time you would be right to think that way.
On May 9 possum will be heading down to Victoria were we will fish Lake Victoria and Port Albert so a g.p.s will be handy

Yeah but most yaks that use them fish offshore off reefs not in a lake where dropoff's are visible by earsight

Wotever ewe do dont get a viking heard their steering shits itself with a few shines of ones head

we do intend to fish offshore J.G.and i like to be a bit different to the run of the mill yak fisho's so we will most likely buy a Lowrance mark 5x DSI they can be bought for as little as $400.

the only worrisome thing about these sounder's is the amount of power that they will use as i will most likely be using a 7amp hour battery.
I will have to do a lot more research before parting with my money

Pol. the 365Xi (365i) is around $590 and the 570x (not 570di) is around $390 from the place I got my plastic boat from. Price will be better than that I imagine.

My previous boat came with a poverty pack Eagle (Lowrance) fishfinder Poly, I suspect it was the very bottom of the line and it was fine mate. Very easy to use with all the usual bells & whistles.

If I was you I'd go for the X-4 Pro with the dual frequency transducer & 188 Watts RMS power all for the bargain price of $169 at BIAS.

At 650mA you could count on at least half a day on your 7AH battery Poly, maybe even a bit more.

Thanks for that Fed, but what dose the ma stand for and how would i relate it to amp hours

the reason for a sealed 7am hour battery is the fact it can be carried in a dry bag and stowed inside the yak

The sounder draws 650mA or 0.65 Amps which is a little over half an Amp.

Your battery is supposed to be good for 7 Amp Hours which is 7 Amps for one Hour or 1 Amp for 7 Hours or any combination that adds up to 7Amp Hours if that makes sense.

With those numbers you should be able to draw 0.65 Amps for a bit over 10 Hours but as the battery goes down it won't be much good below about 12 Volts so that's why I said you could count on half a day or maybe a little more.

We don't know if that 650mA is with the light on either, if it is then without the screen light it may draw a lot less than that.
