majed i don't have a lot of money to spend on top of the line gear so i use a daiwa procaster pr701mlfs 4 to 8kg this rod is matched with a daiwa 3000 S O L the cost of the outfit is around $300.
this outfit allows me to fish 2 line classes the reel comes with 2 spools on one i have 3kg line for briam and 6kg for snapper, the brand of line is platypus super-braid.
this is not the perfect way to fish but it dose allow me to have one good outfit. tight lines mate and thanks for a darn good read biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Mate I've never seen your tackle & had to ask the Q
When you've seen some of the takle people have tried bringing aboard my boats you'd believe anything & one of the reasons I always take a couple of spare outfits along.

You should do well for the Brimus to me's but if you get out in daylight I'd definately give Jibbon Bommy a go love that place & there should be some Studus Maximus Brimus there this time of the year.

my bream gear is not expensive however i find it more than adaquate!

Rod is a 3-4kg Shimano Taipan Spin 6'6, Nice flexi tip and retails for around $80 i think,
Reel is the TR-30 Okuma reel that came free with fishing world (values at $89??, probably a little big but works good!
Im running 6lb Fireline in Lime Green.

Have hooked some decent flatties (using 12lb as leader) and some nice bream and gear has performed well.

I am going to use a very light line the next time i go out and see how it goes.
Just one question, what effect does light gear have on fish and why would it perform better on bream & whiting?

Dont think the trawlers have that much to do with it to be honest I've said it 100's of times fish dont live in one spot they move around & those same fish that might have been caught in the Botany Bays trawlers nets stand a very good chance being caught elsewhere by somebody else's nets.

Think the possitive thing about the Trawlers not being there is weed beds etc are starting to come back @ one time it was barren after the nets kept ripping weed beds [nurseries] out.

Picture you picking up rope say 12 mm then another length 25 mm thick you can feel the extra weight cant you ??

Well there's days you can catch fish on anything as you did last trip then there's days they're very touchy, thats when the lighter line shines.
You can still use 12 ld leader I do it myself but esp if fishing around reef generally tie around 2 meters or so of leader onto the mainline.

Imagin your a comando and walking around hungry, you spot some food but you stop because there's this barbed wire attached to this food . you know there's something wrong B) . so depending how hungry you are you leave it alone. ;)
But its very fine diameter you dont see it and your hungry you go and get it . and before u relise it's a booby trap and your hooked :o
fish can see and they shy away when they know somethings wrong. espeasialy breams
use as little lead if any . I use flurocarbon leaders as these are more invisible in water.
When a fish picks up a bait and moves off it can feel the drag of the heavy line as it moves away and will drop bait .
I tie on about a rod lenth of flurocarbon leader straight to main line . As I said this fluro is NOT visible to fish in water so they cant see booby trap biggrin.gif

Hey Steve,
strap on a scuba tank (or can you hold your breath a long time?) and mask, then have someone drop a line down, flourocarbon or not, and then tell me it is invisible. You WILL be surprised smile.gif

Hey kkw where's your report ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Don't wanna talk about it :( You know what happens when you rely on someone else.
My 120lb handline was too hard to get through the eye of my 1/0 hook, and the cheese squares covered the barb. You know how things conspire to ruin your fishing trip.

My mate phoned me 30 mins before I was due to meet him, telling me he had a sore back and to take a rain check. His boat was lined up for that night, so I just whinged and grouched around the house all night.

Well next time try using 240 lb line & splice it in 1/2 much easier to thread the hook with laugh.gif laugh.gif

I dont rely on anyone nor do I make plans if I want to go for a fish I just go unless I'm off gamefishing that is in which case you do need a crew.

Got sick & tired of peeps letting me down esp when I've booked & paid for accomodation on trips away thats why I dont bother anymore, if I want to go anywhere I just go dont get me wrong not everybody is unreliable but still dosen't change my attitude esp if I want to go for a fish no probs handling both my boats on my own.

Guess now that I went for 1st fish in ages last weekend I'll have to give my backyard a go someone has to do a fishing report around here laugh.gif laugh.gif

Na got some new outfits that I want to try out hopefully the Brimus will be there in good no's if not the reds will be
