Well, seeing not too many members appear to be fishing lately, I thought I would do another short tale.
Headed off to the south of Batemans Bay for a week and mangaged to wet a line a few times. We stayed at a "resort" (for want of a better name) on the Tomago river near Mossy Point. The water was just crystal clear and warm down there, but not many fish were being caught. Got some trevally in the river most mornings, fishing off the shore and in the mangroves. Got loads of bites, but they were mostly from sandflies - still got the lumps almost a week later. Did some fishing off the beach and landed some nice flatties. Also scored a near new nipper pump which someone had left behind at some stage. The black rays came and cleaned up the fish frames at the cleaning ramp each day, along with some pretty eagle rays.
Headed offshore only once, as the wind was fairly constant during the week. The Wednesday was glorious, so we headed off from Batemans Bay ramp at 6am for some bottom bashing. Haven't really done this for a while - dropping a 1/4lb snapper lead on a patternoster rig, to the bottom in 200ft of water. Mutton birds were a pain and I can't remember how many I tapped on the head so that I could get the bait past them. Squid and pillies got the results and I wished I had taken some big soft plastics out with me.
Got blue mowies, tiger flathead, a nice gummy shark, trevally, a few snapper and a monster nannygai along with the usual reef rubbish such as Sgt Baker, rock cod and biggerus sweep. A good session for a few hours. Water was cobalt blue 5klm out and like a mill pond. Coming back in, it was windy inshore and quite choppy - go figure. I will go back down in a few weeks time and try out some new GPS marks I was given. Just a couple of pics of the catch.

Well done mate it's good to get a mixed bag now and again, those Nanigui are a underrated table fish. If you are being troubled by the mutton birds just lay a thin slick of tuna oil out and they won't come close. the oil clogs their feathers and they stay away.
I have an old fashioned water pistol that I load up with oil and it gives a nice even slick, good for those pilchard fights you have with a competive boat on the way home from a days fishing with mates as well.

Sometimes you just have to sacrifice a small cube of pilchard for those Mutton birds.
What i do is chuck a piece one way so they go for it, then drop my bait .
They have been a pain in the ass lately, try fishing floaters when they around... Drives you nuts!

I dont mind those nanygai @ all nice tasting fillets get them just out the front of Shaky but dont come on till after dark

Would've thrown the Mowies back dont like them @ all think they're to dry a fishy

Well done KK, been very quiet on the fishing front here....Have been down the river to catch a few bass, will post up pics and report soon.

Well done KK, I'm another Nanny fan, they always strike me as a very 'clean' fish, top tasting too.
