when buying jig heads should ya look for certain weights or just go on hook size more?,,,,when ya think about it ,it would be easy to make your own with a sinker and hook by just slipping a sinker over the hook ,wack a bend in the hook at a certain distance and then just slip on ya plastic ,,,,,considering it would save ya money by not having to buy them when ya allready have the gear there to do it ,,,,
nah no piccies sir reel ,it came too me as i was writing the first bit ,,,,, but i dont think it would be at all hard ,,,,,something to do on a rainy day perhaps
Takle box has various size & weighted jig heads
I decide which weight jighead to use depending on wind , water depth & current.
Some look really odd I have to admit with whopping big heads & only a small plastic attached to them but they work
i even tossed up the idea of makin them out of 2 part epoxy like araldite as well ,they would be good
Not worth making them jason esp out of epoxy as it becomes quite dear
There are what's called resin heads which have no weight in them @ all if you're fishing around structure & dont want the plastic to sink @ a great rate of knots
oh ok ,,just tossin up ideas
u can buy the molds for them but they are very pricey to say the least,as for making them the way suggest why not give it a go
thats it poly ya dont know unless ya try mate
makin the heads from epoxy may be good for bass fishin especially around lots of dropped timber and stuff ,,theres no reason ya couldnt add colour to them when your mixing as well , that way they would keep better
Resin heads are a great idea especially for light curly tails that dont need a lot of enticing to get a action out of them...Weights are directly tied to water depth current and sp's desired action in sinking them at a particular speed for example shads need more weight to get that tail cranking say as to curly's or minnows...
hooks come in every weight so isnt a real brainer just suit the plastic to fish intended the brainer resides in choosing your sink rates and even trolling weights as some people slowly troll them with leccys so as to be stealth and cover a lot of ground to boot.
my no.1 need in a head is the sp retainer as having my pants pulled down constantly gets annoying to say the least so a little hook rather than a useless ridge system is a must for me [my opinion anyway] the rest comes down to how you want to present and fish your soft plastic..
Making your own with just a hook and small ball sinker works but aftetr getting the sp ripped off very easily or even having the current or snags rip them down you will soon give up to frustration as I did in my early experimental days,,,but good luck if you try...
jig heads without retainers just ridges [i dont like them personally]
do they rip off that easy mully ,
yeah unfortunately if just a hook is used you will soon get frustrated especially when your hook is covered up when it matters most...
Some places its fine but if peckers are about you in trouble also if you bounce off the bottom they will slide off or get pulled down quite easily especially after a few throws...
Dont get me wrong they are a cheap substitute and will work just more patience and valium may be required for missed strikes... lol
