Well it was arranged that I get to my step sons place at 5am and go down to meet the boat.
Last night a mate rocked up to my place, and do you think I could get rid of him, finally at 12.30
he left and I went to bed, next thing I wake up and it is 5.10 am , sprang out of bed got dressed threw the esky
in the car and away by 5.20, a short drive around 15 min and picked my step son and another guy up, ( Val had rang mark to let him know i was running late ).
Got to the boat around 6.15 and the rest of the guys were waiting ready to go.
The skipper said " it's predicted 17 knotts and 1 1/2 metre swell, there were already white caps forming as we left the hacking
heading toward the peak. Bit of a bumpy ride out and managed to pick up 2 bonito on the troll before we left bate bay.
Bashed our way out to the peak ( there was 2 other boats we seen all day, a flybridge cruiser about 42 feet and a plate alloy about 7.0.
I looked at the water and it was that horrible grey colour and I said to the skipper and others that it's a waste of time and nothing is
going to happen. ( all the time getting bashed from one side of the boat to the other (( at one stage I thought the boat was going to tip over ))
Must tell you, even though it's 36 feet long, it is no fishing boat. It had 2 rod holders on the whole boat and they were 5 feet up from the transom.
Very uncomfortable boat and not at all stable as I would imagine.
Anyway the other guys ( most of them first time fishing outside ) wanted to try their luck, so we driffed over a likely looking spot.
The skipper at one stage said the sounder came right up to 36 metres, think he was seeing things.
Anyway I dropped a patenoster over the side with 1/2 kilo lead and it plummeted to the bottom the wind and drag on the line was rediculaus
and I soon pulled it back up, felt my sinker and it was cold so I knew it was hopeless trying to fish. So I put my rod down and consentrated on holding my balance, meanwhile most of the other blokes were sitting on the floor with rods over the side and preying something/anything would connect itself to their hook. It never happened, done 2 long drifts for didley squat.
By this time the others were getting sick of being thrown around so the skipper decided to head back into Botany bay.
We got the bommie and stopped the engine and drifted for about 20 minutes and picking up 3 undersized flatties and 1/2 dozen cockney bream
we decided to go back to the hacking for a BBQ. Had lunch and the back to the whalf to drop everyone off.
3.30pm at this time and everyone was feeling a little stiff and sorry for themselves.
It was a very sloppy and confused sea more like 4 metre rather then their predicted 1.5 m.
Would love to fish from this boat again in good conditions, but never again like it was today.
bugger don't you just hate it when peeps won't go home, any way sounds like you enjoyed the day.
Paul

At least you got out there and had a go frank. Fishing is fishing
Thats one thing i cant stand.. Going out with a boat that isnt set up for fishing very well. My boats not set up the best but its got enough rod holders.
