A few fin have been caught over the last couple of weeks here in Sydney.
One capture of an 80 kg fin on 15 kg tackle . great effort and fish. the angler only had to wait 20 minutes before the fin showed up and took his pillie bait . 3 hr. later it was in the boat.
Here is a picture of the angler and fish.
that is one hell of a fish Steve, how close to a record is it
I think its mutch more than that. on 15kg . but still a very good fish.
Yep saw that one on F-raider.
Fantastic fish.
BTW, the Australian YFT record is 99.0kg. ;)
If your refering to this one Prawnstar.
it was caught on 3 / 7 / 2007
sorry steve just looked like 2001
Saw the pic last weekend the tackle shop when I was picking pilly's.
Some of you may have read what I said in a reply in one of the threads cant recall which one what I said was how I rate fish I'll either say Nice Fish by this I mean exactly what it says & no compliment to the angler.
r I'll say Nice Capture that means bloody nice fish & my hat off to the angler.
This was a Nice Capture on 15 kg line in anyones language, think I've caught enough YT over the years to know they are my pet species those of you who haven't caught one yet make the effort & give it a go you'll be blown away by the yellowfin esp if you're fishing light lines they go go like rocket trains.
After many years of fishing heavier outfits I've gone back to the days when I used to really enjoy fishing for YFT & built myself up a new 10 kg outfit & looking forward to christening it.
catch there's also the ANSA records remember back when Clarky got his 99 kg fin
http://www.ansa.com.au/Sportfishing.htm
What's your biggest YFT to date Jumpy, I remember you were full on to catch a +100Kg one.
why use light gear on big fish wouldnt it be less stress on the fish to take 20mins to catch on stonger gear then three hours on light gear
Because it's more fun! If your gonna keep the fish, whether it takes 20 minutes or 3 hours, it doesn't make a difference. The whole point of "sport fishing" is that we enjoy the sport of the fish more due to lighter gear, rather than just skull dragging it to the boat.
Hey Jumpy, how come the GFAA and ANSA records are different? Is one of the sites crapola? There are some holes on the GFAA records...one of the women anglers listed is called Mark Brown...uh huh?....
2 DIFFERENT ASSOCIATIONS
ANSA stands Australian National Sportsfishing Association & they cater for both Sportsfishing & Gamefishing difference between the two is in sportsfishing your doulbe + leader combined cannot exceed one & half times the length of your rod whereas in gamefishing you're allowed 40 ft overall in any configeration ANSA also caters for a variety of other types of fishing such as LBG, Lurecasting, Handlining etc in other words you get a variety to choose from.
GFAA stands for Game Fishing Associatio of Aust & they cater for straight out Gamefishing
Both are linked to IGFA International Game Fishing Association so you're entitled to claim a World record if fish is good enough BUT again IGFA only caters for Gamefishing which is a bit of one way traffic cause there's alot of great sportsfish captures out there.
Back when I 1st joined a fishing club it was a ANSA club & think that's the better way to go as I said more options open to you anyway back then I used to fish LBG never been out in a bot B4 think one of my 1st good fish was a Marlin off the rocks on 10 kg tackle & I claimed it as a Australian National Record where it stood for around 10 years or so only to be broken by a young kid whom I used to take rock hopping with me.
It was well deserved think it went around 90 kg on 10 kg tackle great effort & a huge fish compared to mine anyway what I'm getting @ is both fish were actually world records but IGFA dosen't acknowledge LBG as a seperate division nor does GFAA.
Best of my knowledge think Sth Africa is the only other place where Marlin are landed on a regular basis of the rocks.
