Fishing oz style _ Fishing Reports _ More Niggers

Posted by: kkw Nov 5 2012, 10:47 PM

Got back from Forster last Friday night and was disappointed by the overall lack of fish up there. Only got one blackfish and one big salmon. The spawning run should be underway in Botany Bay and Port Hacking, so I picked up Whispering Jack this morning and trekked out to the coast, near Wattamolla for a couple of hours on the stones. The tide was low and the swell rising, but it was fishable. John landed the first fish and another mate Rick turned up to land the second one. My luck followed me down from the north coast it seemed.
I hooked a very solid fish, only to have it bust off at my feet. John had three or four in the net and I was still zero. Started getting a few more downs as the tide rose and started to get a few nice fish in the low 40's. Solid males ready for spawning. We decided to call it quits just before lunch and the tally was 8 landed and one released for me, six for John and three for Rick, so it was a not to bad in the end. We all dropped several fish and had a couple of bust offs each as well. Glorious day out there until the NE wind picked up. Looking forward to next week.

Thanks Pol. At least someone is happy to read a report smile.gif Might try a bit of sandflat spinning for lizards next week. Got a 4.5m plastic thing under the balcony, which should at least see the water this year.

Get JG to come along and he can give you his catch. smile.gif I never get out your way and JG must have a back entrance to the Shire, as I see him sneaking through on occasion.

Well done you always end up with a nice feed./ Forster area has been over rated for the past 20 odd years, before that it was a top fishing destination, now it's just another town near water.
Sydney even with it's 3 million plus population and all it's industrial polutants is still up there amongst some of the best fishing destinations on the mid eastern NSW coast.

Todays catch. One next to the knife is 43cm.

And more. No point in writing a report, I guess. Swell was up yesterday and copped a couple of surges which were waist deep. Solid fish - great fun and even better eating.

Great morning yesterday. Got out to the platform at 6.30am before it got too hot. Got 14 nice fish and busted off a couple of times by pigs. Pelican swallowed a 42cm blackfish whole, and it was alive and kicking for ages. Pelican looked happy though and soon after, ate another one before flying out on the water to digest them.

That's a damn nice haul of fish you have there, almost half tempted to try my luck, almost.

Posted by: kkw Jan 9 2013, 12:08 AM

Well Frank if you do come along one time, you will have to ease into it slowly as the excitement of actually hooking and landing a fish may be too much for the ticker biggrin.gif

Not sure. I am fishing around Jibbon, so it must be close to Jibbion. Waiting for JG to offer me a snapper trip on 'Pops'.
