Fishing oz style _ Fishing Reports _ Batemans Bay

Posted by: Rumpus Jun 16 2008, 02:17 AM

Finally got back out on the water, Down at good old batemans bay, after a few more Snapper..

Started a bit late, as id just driven down from out west, so didnt hit the water untill about 10ish..

Went to a shallow bommy for a spin for a while and scored a few pike and bakers and 1 lone flatty, all on SP's.. Then headed out to look for some structure in deeper water.

Got myself 3 legal snapper best going around 40cm, 2 on bait and one on SP, lost a few that spat the hook.. Then i noticed the hook was blunt..

Also scored more pike, some Sg Bakers and Wrasse..

Had to call it quits before it was to late, and probably missed the good run of snapper on dusk, but i had to get home.. Looking forward to another trip..

Great stuff there Chad. Are you still launching at Long Beach?

Posted by: Rumpus Jun 16 2008, 03:24 AM

Hey, forgot to mention, i bumped into a local down there....

Nah, launched frmo hanging rock this time.. What a great setup they have.. Will stick to that ramp.. Saw your car in the afternoon, was parked about 3 spots up frmo you in the landcrusier.

How big was the one you hooked while i was on the phone to you?

Posted by: Sir Reel Jun 16 2008, 03:32 AM

Hanging Rock is a great ramp, I use it all the time. Just be careful on a low tide as it only has .7mtr over the bar.
Chickenleg's Snapper was just over 70cm
Great spot there at dusk.
I was having a tug o war with something over a sweep. No Idea what it was but it was missing it gill section

Posted by: Rumpus Jun 16 2008, 03:41 AM

yea.. Great stuff, 70cm, awesome...

Was talking to a guy at the ramp while cleaning the fish.. He was a local, fishind out of a tinny like mine, think he said it was about 4.3m.. Said he had caught a few 6kg fish just down south..

I think I saw him he was doing the same drift where we started from half hour earlier. How was tose whales. We had a pair breach 5mtrs off the port side.

Posted by: Rumpus Jun 16 2008, 07:59 AM

yea, one that came close to me was at least 2.5 times the size of the boat... it was massive... i seen a black thing in the wtare at first, not moving at all and thought it was a log, but lost sight of it.. Then i came up real close, couldnt get the phone camera out quick enough... Did get a few blurry shots though..

feel sorry for the people who dont get to experiance some of these things.... Whales, Platypus (got one lives out front of the house at farm) Wedgies, wombats etc etc etc...

Posted by: Rumpus Jun 17 2008, 01:42 AM

Yea, mate... You recognise the rod did ya? Got it matched up to a abu 6500 with 300m of 6kg line... Works a treat!

Posted by: Jumpus GooDarus Jun 17 2008, 02:08 AM

Great blanks but a bit soft for 6kg line

Not to mention the guide spacings aren't suited to an overhead reel
