Fishing oz style _ Fishing Reports _ Winter - Spring. Fish Are Still Around.

It?s been six weeks since I have had a chance to toss in a bait off the rocks, for blackfish. Swell today was perfect for the location and the water was clear as gin (unfortunate), but there were plenty of fish around. Schools of whitebait were hard up against the ledges and splashes of much bigger predators were churning the water every now and then. Got to the spot at 7.30am and was surprised to find that I had it to myself. First bait in the water 15 minutes later and almost straight into a solid nigger. Into the keeper net after a short but hard fight and back out. The float was around four rod lengths out and suddenly got ripped under. Felt like a solid fish but it came in fairly easily, until it saw the ledge. It took off and the line was humming in full stretch and the rod was loaded up and it didn?t take much thinking to know it was a solid pig. The benefit of long rods was appreciated, as the fish surged backwards and forwards along the rock ledge, or should I say under it, but 8lb line won out and after three runs the fish gave up and I washed in a nice 38cm drummer. This fish was short but very thick and solid. My mate Rick arrived at 8am and shortly after, Mick joined us as well. I gave it away after 2.5 hours as I had enough fish for a few meals and the boys kept going for a while longer. Another group of heavy metal tossers arrived with their 80lb braid and groper fishing outfits. They were complaining about the lack of crabs and it is interesting (dismaying) to see that in the 3 months these guys have been coming here, there are no crabs to be found. Plenty of rubbish left behind for us to take back though. When trying to speak to them about the over collecting and taking their garbage back with them, they don?t understand English. Seems to be the same all around the coastline of Sydney lately. As my mate would say, "we all live under the Southern Cross, but fair dinkum!!!" The day ended well before lunchtime and it was a glorious Spring day. We all took home fish so what more could you ask for. I got 7 blackfish and a drummer. Mick got 5 blackfish when I left, but he was still fishing and Rick got 3. A good morning. The fish were full of milt and the females were full of roe, so they will be heading upstream soon.

Was coming back from Bare Island the other day, and saw the JG still likes his weekly paddle at Foreshore Drive.
