Well i went too port hacking today, and guess what happened in the morning, yep, i slept in AGAIN, ahhhhhhhhhhhh i was not too happy as it as around 7:30 when we left and i was planning on going at 6 in the morning, there is a 1 fishin time goooooone,

oh well onto fishing, headed too jibbion first, very windy at first, not much action ... then my uncle reels in a little flattie, undersized but still good to see a fish coming into the boat,

we where difting very fast and where not getting many more bites, and the wind was howling, sooo we headed too south west arm, ankered up near the shore, and we got into the fish, bang bang bang every cast, all we got was a few little snapper but hey it was something, i lefted my rod in the rod holder, and picked up another rod with a float and small hook, casted it out, 10 seconds later im on, only a little blackfish, but still great fun, little guy ate a prawn, i throught they only ate weed, anyway later on my uncle makes a call that he is onto a good fish, turns out too be a nice leatherjacket, then 5 mins later anothe r one, and then he hooks a huge leatherjacket, i could see it, it was big, then it bite the hook off, bugger oh well

Hey Flattie, don't worry mate, this time of the year you can be excused for getting up a bit late.
Doesn't get light till after 6 anyway.
It has been windy today and you are lucky you got to get on the water.

Weather was better than I expected, you got some fish so that was good

jack it was black, and had little spots on it, not a very good photo bit anyway

Good report there flattie_hunter.

The Luderick(blackfish) that you caught do eat weed as their main diet, they also eat peeled prawns and worms. I have caught them on prawns, it is just not very offen.

The other picture that you have posted with the fish you are not familiar with looks like a Rock Blackfish and will take a peeled prawn.

I should also mention that the Rock Blackfish will be caught on weed as similar to when catching Luderick.

One more thing to mention the difference between the Rock Blackfish and Luderick are in what they do to get food.

The Rock Blackfish live in the holes under the rocks and come out grab their food and head back under the rocks. The Luderick tend to move around a little (in the wash) and get their food and once they are hooked they go towards the rocks to break the line.

This is very simple but I trust that you get the idea.

Good to see you get out for a fish. I went to Church instead The Rock Blackfish or Drummer put up a good fight. Don't know about the spots though!!!???

I have caught blackfish (luderick) on weed, worms, prawn and they go nuts on bread as well. Rock blackfish or Black Drummer as they are generally called, love cunjevoi off the ocean rocks.

Back to school tomorrow. Pay attention, learn lots and CHECK your SPELLING

I called it a Black Drummer, but I wouldn't argue the point.
It did give me a hell of a fight though, was a bit off Bulli and on a hot bream bite, and I thought I hooked the mother of all bream, very dissapointed when I seen colour.
Just snapped the photo and threw it back.

Ok we now have a difference. I got one question and it all depends on flattie hunter to answer. Did this fish have a small mouth or large mouth. I can not really tell on the picture.

If your not sure of a fish, Count gills and spines in fish and try and get good pics with the fins held open..
