Great to see you get a start there jumps!!
Do you have a time line for the build??
All depends on how the old body holds up
2 - 3 months if all goes well
In the same year?
more to the point, have you got some one to help with those heavy sheets as your health is the most impotent thing of all with out it the boat is on good to you at all.
Paul
Great start, if you ever need any help, just give me a tinkle, we'll be over in a flash if we have time, Jen Sookie and myself. Would love to help out and learn anything i can.
Kamil
Yeah JG for sure, your putting together a weapon from scratch! Not often do average Joes like myself get to see that happen, i mean it and so does Jen, if you ever need help, we'll be there in a flash, anything we can do will be our pleasure.
PS- on a side note, i have found the perfect woman, she is just so keen on fishing i cant explain it!!!!!!!! I have struck gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geez dont you know anything kk ???????
The name is Sooky & it's the 1st Chiwawawa that I've ever come across that didn't bark @ me
Bloody got sharp claws though
hehe good luck jg hope all goes well ... well have to see you on the water when its ready !!
Yea Christos I had my reasons for making it a closed topic & only making the pics visible to members only.
There's alot of non posting people viewing this site & if they want to learn or know anything then they should become active
no i mean i will have to see you on the water on the new goat
Good stuff there JG, hope it all comes together without too many hiccups........
I'm with kamil mate, if you need a hand-gimme a yell would be interesting to see how you go about building such a large boat yourself----should organise a day of BBQ and boat building!
yeh throw another trammel on the barbi
BYO Tamel. Or get them fro Oz Man
Well I was going to do an update in the main thread but left the camera behind & I'm not going back to get it
Gonna have to wait till 2morro
Looks great Jumpus... But i really think you should weld that hull up inside there That'll really test you.
j.g if I may ask, why cut the boat down by 1ft it dose not make any scene to me.
Actually I could've gotten away with welding the hull only in there but Frame 9 wont allow me to get it out
projects looking good jumpy && i see you have your little friend there helping you called "V"
now wouldnt that double the cost of the project ??
Hey guys !
Went Drivies today picking up materials & you wont belief what I found on the side of the road ??
5 sheets of MDF board ideal to make some templates from
Thanks oz I owe you some flathead fillets
No problems glad to help, as I said they would have only been used for cover sheets in our place.
You picked out a colour for paint yet jumpy-----V-Green would work, best thing if you run out of V you can just lick the boat!
Now you are just being mean to poor little Jumpy who can not defend himself.
j.g the holes that have been drilled to bolt the framer to the jig, will they be welded up or left as is ?????????
Nope !
No need to, all holes are below floor level & none will be seen, if anything I'll drill them out to a larger size & run the Fuel lines throgh them.
Only the transom holes will need plugging up with welding.
I've been dead as a doornail last couple of days, came home early today so was in a bit of a mood to post.
OK no pics but the whole project has been dismantled & moved out back
Set up the Jig late yesterday with failing light which suited the Laser Level cause I could see the laser, chocked up all the legs with packers good slope in concrete slab so up to 10 inch's of packing on one of the legs.
Clamped extentions to legs & welded them on this morn after that I machined out water run off slots in the frames where the stringers run through.
Bolted everything up, welded in all the stringers, lined up the transom welded that in & called it a day cause of the wind taking away the gas.
Have to organise a big tarp to go over the job cause any wind & I'm stuffed.
After 2morro I'll be ready to start skinning the project
it is moving along at a pace that's for sure, have any of the skin plates been cut out yet ????????
Dude, you are a master!!!!! The $hit is coming together so well!
ALl praises to you.
Try and come visit 2moro.
See how i go, i'll ring ya.
this may help with the choice of color for the boat

Pink symbolizes: love, beauty
Brown symbolizes: earth, order, convention
Orange symbolizes: vitality with endurance
Gold symbolizes: Wealth, prosperity, wisdom
Yellow symbolizes: wisdom, joy, happiness, intellectual energy

Well How bloody slow am I ?. I am still buggerising around trying to get some plans for the project, and Jumpy's almost finished the damn thing.
Well that will teach me to go away into the wilderness for 3 weeks.
Jeeze Jumpy you're not mucking around mate, will try and get down there to have a look see and offer any help I am capable of after the week end.
I could bring down my mig if you want a hand to do the long runs etc, it's only 240v but can weld 5mm OK.
Tried to ring you today but your mobile was off.
Hey Frank if you're still fart arsing about deciding about the floor in you tinny
There's some specials on 5053 2.5 mm alloy sheet 2400mm x 1200mm $99 + GST
Yeah I dont answer the phone when I'm working there was around 30 missed calls today alone
Good on ya Jump. Im still trying to get my head around you building a boat. A bloody big boat! And youve never done it before!
Really mate, thats awesome.
Its inspired me to go cut the grass today.........
Looks great Pal
Where are the feul tank(s) going?
PS.. 2 of those missed calls were from me! I was ringing to complain about the suprise doodles on the site I was in no way putting in a complaint about those lesbians however!!
Jumpy,
What are you using to flatten/linish welds?
e.g. where you joined the sheets at the front and I guess the length of the reverse chines.
What material are you going to for the fuel tanks? Are you going to set up the same flush system again?
And to the others I am not stirring FED, but I am sure he visits the site and wants to know.
Also did you end up buying a pull gun or a standard mig gun?
For those that don't weld a standard mig gun pushes the aluminium wire which is soft and therefore most welders limit the gun lead to 3 metres. A pull gun has a small motor at the gun which helps pull the wire and most are 8 metres which means you don't have to move the mig power source around as much.
Good write up and pictures.
I know I know, I need to finish off that handrail, hopefully this week.
hows it going mate, any chance of an update
things must be moving along quite a bit by now J.G. any chance of an up date
Keep 4geting to take the camera poly I walk out of here still 1/2 asleep in the mornings
Not alot has been done to the boat itself since tuesday as it was pissing down for a few days so I worked indoors finishing seat box's kill tank & fuel tanks etc.
Did fit up the fuel tanks to the boat today
Withthe rainy days I also started glassing up all the underfloor flotation & that is a very time consuming task.
I'll go leave the camera with my keys so I dont 4get it
thanks mate, it may not sound to interesting what you have been doing, but its all part of the overall job and to be able to read how it all goes together is of interest at least to me and i would think to a lot of others.
i would think that coming home after a hard day it is difficult to add to the thread so i will try not to hound you to much for up dates
Jumpy,
last we spoke you were still in the final stages of planning i go to sea come home and you have a boat WTF you were not wrong when you said once under way you get into it. That look very impressive and cant wait to see it in all its metal glory well done ... i bow to your master craftsmanship!
