Fishing oz style _ Boating Talk _ New Carpet In Bass Boat

Posted by: nimrod Feb 19 2014, 07:57 PM

I will be replacing the carpet in my Bass boat in the next week or so, decided to get away from the drab old grey and go with the ribbed blue, while I'm on the job I will be changing a few of the storage areas around.
This is going to make the boat fell like a new one.
I carpeted it about 3-4 years ago with carpet from bunnings which I was told was Marine carpet, first time it got wet it started to fall apart and now is thread bare and non existent in walking areas.

I think I got mine from Whitworths from memory. Come to think of it, Sav told me about a place around Queens St, Beaconsfield where I got it for a very good price. JG might know the name of the place?

Thanks KKW I rang them and they only sell full rolls to trade, so I only want 7 metres so a non event.
I can buy the heavy duty ribbed for $48 a metre from a place in Beverley hills so I think I will go with him.

OK maybe policy has changed since you bought but I will give it a try, it's only a drive to Alexandria to find out for sure, and a few quid saved is good.

Yes mate that's where I was going to get it from, the guy in Beverley hills, but I am assuming now that he buys it from the guy KKW and jumpy are talking
about so might be even cheaper.

PS I see he has further reduced the price, so at the price he is selling it for I might as well just buy from him, I doubt that I would get it much cheaper than $40 a metre.
I have sent " ask a question on availability on meterage and colour, If he has it in stock I will order it tomorrow.

Ended up getting the carpet from the guy at Beverley hills for $40 a metre, turned out he was a nice guy and I will be buying more stuff from him as needed.
Anyhow haven't done a great deal as yet as I can't go out in the sun ( dracular syndrome ) due to my Scabies, the daylight flares up the rash, so the boat gets neglected.
I have decided to change the layout of storage while I'm about it so am going to replace the ply on the floor. Got a place at Villawood that does a great price on ply
from Chili it's marine grade and the cheapest I can find, every penny counts when your a pensioner.
I will try and remember to take some photos of the fit out as I go along and show some progress shots here.

What price as I sell all that products at Parramatta (Rosehill) and chile doesn't do a marine grade ply only a marine grade glue line . The big produces from Chile are Arauco, cpmc , rio trata and Tulsa all only do radiata pine cd/bc grades with a wbp marine grade glue line. As Full marine is to AS2272 or imported to BS1088 and come in from either Austral plywood in qld or from Indonesia/china for the BS1088 grade but most don't need marine a good hardwood ext ply does the job.

Oz I didn't bother you mate cause I thought you dealt with bulk large orders, I only want 4 sheets total 2 x 2400x1200x 7mm and 2x 2400x1200x 18mm, as I am going to coat it with fibreglass resin to seal it I don't really need top of the line wood, it's just a floor of a boat not a set of designer cupboards or anything fancy and carpet covering it.
I can get the 7mm for $26.40 per sheet and the 18mm for 441.80 per sheet and it's vertually just around the corner from me to pick up.

Posted by: Fed Mar 11 2014, 05:05 PM

You better get rid of the crabs before you start Frank, don't want them making a home in the new carpet.

Posted by: oz man Mar 14 2014, 07:49 PM

well 6mm marine bs1088 from me would be $21.00 per sheet and 7mm is most likely 7mm cd ply which is $15.50 sheet, as for the 18mm . 18mm cd ply $28.80 sheet and 18mm ext ply $55.00 and 18mm marine bs1088 $90.00

so I think they must have sold you at those prices cd or there is some chinese ply floating around which is neither grades just a grade they made up.

sorry you must add 10% gst to my prices.

Anyhow as long as your happy is the big part and nimrod my warehouse is like 10 minutes from you at Rosehill/granville.

Posted by: kkw Apr 17 2014, 02:12 PM

How did it all end up, Frank?
Still haven't taken my boat out yet. The sparky thing that makes the motor go, isn't sparking. Could be the kill switch or the power pack or the stator or the..........
OB mechanic is coming over in 2 weeks time to check it out and MAYBE then I will get to go. Maybe meet up with Fed and he can show me some spots to catch a few. smile.gif

Well I have got the 2 centre seat areas done and the centre lower floor done. Also what is done is my back. woke up this morning and I can hardly move without
severe back pain. I still have to do the rear compartments that house the fuel tank battery and bilge pumps etc, as well as the front cast deck area, which is a bit less than 1/2 the boat.
Still what I have managed to do so far looks good and IF I ever get around to being able to finish it off will look like a new boat.
Will take some shots of the finished product.
