What does everyone use? (Except jumpy, we all know you just talk about fish and dont catch any)

Need a new one after the last one somehow undone its own shacle and released itself..

There are some pretty flash (meaning EXPEN$$$IVE) ones out there like the SARCA that make pretty big claims!! Or there is the old method of running a plough and a rock pick and swapping between thenm as needed...

For inshore fishing ive always found a sand anchor the most practical, very very occasionaly have we needed to use the reef anchor. A heavy sand anchor holds the old mans boat (5.5m plate boat) fine in most situations and weather conditions it is also so much easier to pull up then a plough anchor, we had a plough anchor but got rid of it just because it seemed like every time we pulled it up it would decided to get snaged on something. I dont no much about the sarca anchors but they look like they could be a pain in the arse to bring up unless you have an electric anchor winch.

I keep a sand anchor on the boat but only ever use a reef pick, I'm not entirely happy with my current set up at the moment.

I find the reef pick + chain holds anywhere in the bay but I think the reef pick is just a little too big for my boat.

I'm going to try the next size down because sometimes if it's really hooked up it's a huge job straightening out 2 or 3 prongs. Surprisingly it does hold OK on sand or weed though.

I've held my boat on 10Kg line & a jig at the peak so it doesn't take much.

I'll get some measurements when I wake up.

Jumpy should be the anchor expert he's lost more anchors than anyone I know.

Id recon ive been fishing more than you so far in January.....

Ive lost an anchor already this year to proove it!!

Anchors are easy to lose esp if one actually goes fishing unlike a goose we all know
Lost 3 in 3 days last year & knew i would lose them
Rather lose an anchor than miss out on a day on the water allways carry spares

aranyone any good at bending aluminum pipe, bout 600mm x 25mm OD, need a bit of a S in it for my baitboard as the plastic kobs are useless, ill draw ya up a set of plans...

The board has dodgy plastci balls that you tighten no but no matter how tight they still move when underway, thought of throwing a rivet into them or even some locktite (what about some stag jumpy? / Fishnet joke) but still recon it will move and some custom aluminum jobs would work better...

Just measured my reef pick Rumpus, 10mm prongs which I think is right on the edge of being too big for my boat that's why I'm thinking of trying the next size down.
Next size down is 8mm.

Chain is about 10-12 Ft of 8.0 mm which I'm thinking of reducing too only because it is too big to run through the gizmo at the front of the boat. It sort of goes through but tends to catch sometimes.

Can you use straight tube with a bit of flat bar welded on the tops of them to pick up the existing holes in the bait board Rumpus?

Rumpy. Those adjustable ball type thongo's are teriffic for a sounder or GPS base holder, or even a single small rod holder at a pinch, but are not designed to be used with a heavy bait board, specially one that you might put a rod or two in to hold for you.
Terrific device if used in the right application but NOT on a bait board.
As for anchors I have a sand anchor hanging Off my bow rail ready for use, but generally a 8mm reef pick 4 blade, and I carry a lump of water pipe in the side locker to re-shape the prongs when straightened. Also have the buoy system, so never need to tug on the rope. Anchoring and retrieving is not a chore.
I have lost the odd anchor or 2 over the years, it's tyhe chain what I hate to loose.

I'm sure I could get away with 6mm prongs by using the anchor yanker the way it was designed to be used and only bending the very ends of the prongs like long shanked hooks.

6mm wouldbe fine for you fed as you never take boat out unless wind is under 5 knots so very wittle chance of staightening prongs due to bad conditions

i use 6 mm on mini me & they hold just fine

Bummer I'm torn between 6 & 8 I'll try 6 first and see what happens, they only cost a few bucks anyway and whatever doesn't work you can have for spares. (You need them)

Have decided on getting some gear to set her up for the big one...

Have ordered some gear from marine direct to set her up for marlin and tuna...

All up about $2000, but still need rods, so if anyone has any game gear they dont use or wants to come fishing with their own gear you are more than welcome...

Have I forgotten anything???? Can you get game chairs for small boats?

How you going with the outriggers Rumpus?
I'm going to get a pair for my boat, already got the bases screwed to the boat just have to find the other half of the fitting (Wilson I think) at the right price.

Yea, im really only doing it for looks myself... not even going to put the boat in the water, just pull up at the ramp with boat on the trailer and a esky full of fish bought the day b4 from the fish shop..
Ill take my laptop and if someone asked me a tricky question then I can google it up.


I raced out and spent over 2k FED but then found this! Spewing.. Ive got some left over tek screws from building the chicken pen that ill use to mount them.. Tek Screws can be used on anything.
